    The American Academy of Health Behavior (AAHB) provides a 12-month scholarship and mentoring opportunity to a competitive pool of health behavior researchers. The purpose of the Research Scholars & Mentorship Program (RSMP) is to mentor early career investigators in the production of high-quality scholarly researchbased products that address any area of health behavior-related research. This application is for the Scholarship Track of the RSMP. This track pairs Academy members wanting to form new research collaborations, expand their productivity, and learn about new fields, topics, and methodological approaches. The overarching goal of the Scholarship Track is to promote excellence in health behavior research among Academy members through collaboration. Paired scholars will generate research-based products and collaborate in various forms of scholarship. The research-based products and/or processes resulting from the RSMP are determined by each pair collaboratively. Scholars selected for the RSMP will be matched in February 2023, and pairs will be recognized at the 2023 and 2024 AAHB meetings.     Eligibility Criteria:

      Be current, paid members of AAHB in good standing at the time of application o Previous RSMP participants are welcomed to apply for the Scholarship Track 

     Have completed a doctoral level degree in a health behavior discipline 

    RSMP Expectations 

     Identify a Preferred Pair for collaboration. A Scholar can select a Preferred Pair based on their research interests, methodological expertise, existing projects, and/or current roles. Ultimately, pairs are expected to collaborate to expand their scholarship and academic productivity. 

    o Members: For a list of AAHB fellows and members, please visit http://aahb.org and log on with your username and password. Go to ‘Members Only’ menu for Membership Directory. Non-members: email Matthew Smith or Joanne Sommers for access to a full list of AAHB members.

     o It is recommended that Scholars contact their Preferred Pair to determine their interest in the program and solicit agreement to participate in the RSMP together. It is preferred that Scholar Pairs apply together, when possible. 

     Develop research-based products (e.g., grant proposal, manuscript) and engage in academic scholarship activities (at the discretion of the pair) 

     Commit 12-months to the relationship, which will include participation in the following: 

    o Developing a work plan 

    o Producing a mid-year progress report 

    o Producing a final report 

    o Keeping AAHB informed about professional accomplishments via survey participation

    The American Academy of Health Behavior (AAHB) provides a 12-month mentoring opportunity to a competitive pool of junior-level health behavior researchers. The purpose of the Research Scholars & Mentorship Program (RSMP) is to mentor early career investigators in the production of high-quality scholarly research-based products that address any area of health behavior-related research.

    Senior investigators from AAHB (mentors) are partnered with selected junior investigators (mentees) to help them develop skills and gain experience in research-related activities. Selected applicants are matched with senior-level AAHB members based on content or methods expertise. The overarching goal of the RSMP is to promote excellence in health behavior research among Academy members. The research-based products and/or processes resulting from the RSMP are determined by each mentee-mentor pair collaboratively.

    Mentees selected for the RSMP will be matched in February 2023, and mentee/mentor pairs will be recognized at the 2023 and 2024 AAHB meetings. Details about the RSMP can be found here:  https://newprairiepress.org/hbr/vol2/iss4/7/

    Mentee Eligibility Criteria

     Be current, paid members of AAHB in good standing at the time of application
     Have completed a doctoral level degree in a health behavior discipline

     Be able to articulate a health behavior research agenda

    RSMP Expectations

     Identify three Preferred AAHB Mentors the Mentee believes would be a good mentor match based on their research interests and career goals (program leadership will attempt to recruit them with no guarantees)

    o Members: For a list of AAHB fellows and members, please visit http://aahb.org and log on with your username and password. Go to ‘Members Only’ menu for Membership Directory. Non-members: email Matthew Smith or Joanne Sommers for access to a full list of AAHB members.

    o It is recommended that the Mentee contact proposed Mentors to determine their interest in the program and solicit agreement to participate in the RSMP together (prior to the application submission, if possible).

     Develop research-based products (e.g., grant proposal, manuscript) and engage in research-based processes (e.g., interviewing, navigating tenure and promotion)

     Commit 12-months to the mentor-mentee relationship, which will include participation in the following:

    o Interacting for 4 hours to become acquainted and strategize a mentorship work plan

    o Developing a mentor/mentee work plan

    o Producing a mid-year progress report

    o Producing a final report

    o Keeping AAHB informed about professional accomplishments via survey participation

    3-minute Thesis Competition

    The American Academy of Health Behavior invites graduate students and newly graduated post-doctoral professionals within 2-years of their post doctoral degree and not yet in a tenure-track position to participate in the annual 3-minute Thesis Competition at the 2024 AAHB Annual Meeting in Savannah, GA.  The 3-minute Thesis is an academic competition that challenges presenters to deliver compelling oration on their research agenda, highlighting the significance and impact of their research in no more than 180 seconds using a single slide.

    The competition will be held at the 2024 Annual AAHB Meeting.

    If entered into the competition, it is expected that you will register for and attend the conference.  We look forward to seeing you in Savannah!
